Is NMN effective for skin health?

hello .
In this lesson, we will look at NMN and whether it is effective for skin health .
  • NMN

NMN (Nicotinamide mononucleotide) is a representative anti-aging substance mentioned in the book The End of Aging, and has recently been receiving attention as it is covered in various health contents . When NMN is consumed , it can effectively increase the concentration of NAD+, which decreases with age . The representative function of NAD+ is to prevent aging by maintaining the length of telomeres that shorten with age in our body , and to provide a healthier life by improving immunity . Currently, various clinical trials are being conducted in the United States and Japan , and it is being studied as one solution to human aging .

  • NMN and Skin Health

Based on a study by Yonei and colleagues at Doshisha University in Japan published in Glycative Stress Research in June 2022 , we'll tell you whether NMN can help with skin health .

The study involved 17 Japanese female volunteers with an average age of 55 years who took NMN (300 mg) once daily for 8 weeks to examine changes in various biomarkers .

What are biomarkers?
It refers to the standard for measuring the overall condition of the body through blood, body fluids, and tissues, which are biomolecules in the body.
This study found that taking NMN helped with skin aging.

Study subjects who took NMN for 8 weeks had a decrease in advanced glycation end products (AGEs), a marker of skin autofluorescence , and consequently, a decrease in skin autofluorescence (AF), a marker of skin health .
Since increased AGEs levels are closely related to the progression of skin aging, the above results indicate that NMN is effective for skin health.
In addition to skin health, several biomarkers were improved .

First , HbA1c , a hemoglobin protein containing sugar, is an indicator of blood sugar levels used to diagnose diabetes . After taking NMN for eight weeks, the volunteers' HbA1c levels, or blood sugar levels, decreased. This reduced HbA1c level indicates an improvement in metabolic function, which tends to decline with age .

Second , HDL-C is a high-density lipoprotein that plays a key role in preventing atherosclerosis . After eight weeks of NMN intake, the volunteers' blood concentrations of HDL-C increased. Higher concentrations of HDL-C indicate better protection against atherosclerosis and better metabolism in the body .

Third , DHEA is a reproductive hormone produced in the adrenal glands of the human body. It is converted into androgens in men and estrogens in women through the metabolism of several enzymes . After eight weeks of taking NMN, the volunteers' DHEA levels increased . This increase in DHEA levels after NMN intake in women over the age of 55 , on average, indicates improved hormonal health .

NMN is used in women aged 55 years and older on average.
It helps improve skin health, control blood sugar, prevent arteriosclerosis, and manage hormones.
It may be one alternative for an active old age .

NMN may help with skin health, metabolism , and hormone regulation .
