Is NMN effective for diabetes?
hello .
In this lesson, we will look at NMN and whether it is effective for diabetes .

NMN
NMN (Nicotinamide mononucleotide) is a representative anti-aging substance mentioned in the book “The End of Aging” by Dr. Sinclair, an expert in aging at Harvard . NMN is a precursor of NAD+ , and when NMN is consumed, it is converted to NAD+ in the body . As we age, NAD+ , an essential coenzyme in our body, decreases , and this can be supplemented through NMN . Currently, clinical trials related to aging and metabolism related to NMN are being conducted around the world , proving its safety .

NMN and diabetes
Before getting into the paper, let me briefly explain insulin to help you understand the paper .
Insulin is a substance essential for maintaining normal blood sugar levels, a key component of diabetes management. Insulin converts glucose into glycogen and plays a crucial role in metabolism. When it doesn't function properly in our bodies, we are said to have "insulin resistance" or "low insulin sensitivity." Therefore, "reducing insulin resistance and increasing insulin sensitivity" are key to managing diabetes.
For this purpose, it is important to increase the metabolic capacity of the sugar.
In this regard, based on a paper published in April 2021 , we will inform you about whether NMN can help manage diabetes .
The study involved 25 overweight and obese pre-diabetic female volunteers, aged 55 to 75 years, who were divided into two groups: placebo (n=12) and NMN 250 mg (n=13) for 10 weeks .

According to the graph above , when comparing Before ( white dots ) and After ( black dots ) , we can see that the NMN 250 mg group had a higher glucose diaposal rate than the placebo group . In other words, when taking NMN in combination with insulin treatment for 10 weeks, the glucose disposal rate was increased by about 25% compared to the placebo group .
Additionally , researchers conducted additional studies beyond sugar metabolism .

According to the graph above , the NMN intake group significantly increased skeletal muscle expression of PDGFR beta, a receptor for platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) that regulates muscle cell growth and proliferation during insulin infusion, and CD90 and CD109, which are markers of cells surrounding skeletal muscles.
Therefore, the NMN group, when taken alongside insulin therapy in pre-diabetic women aged 55 to 75 , improved glucose metabolism and activated overall muscle cells . Therefore , NMN intake can be an alternative for effective diabetes management and a healthier body.
