Infertility, is NMN effective for infertility?

In this lesson , we will look at infertility and find out how NMN is effective in treating infertility .

What is infertility ?

Infertility refers to a situation where a couple who does not use contraception cannot achieve natural pregnancy within one year despite having normal sexual relations .

Causes of infertility

There are various reasons for infertility, but the most common ones include increased obesity rates, lack of nutrients necessary for pregnancy (vitamins B, omega-3 fatty acids, iodine, iron, etc.), increased endometriosis, decreased thyroid function, and increasing gestational age .

The relationship between infertility and NMN

Harvard scientists, including Professor Walter Wilett, author of “The Fertility Diet,” say that Nicotinamide mononucleotide, or NMN, may be effective in treating infertility.

Because egg cells are vulnerable to DNA damage that occurs with aging, NMN is one of the most studied substances for aging and age-related diseases because it is converted to NAD+ in the body and helps repair DNA damage .

Every woman is born with approximately one to two million eggs, but this number gradually decreases with age. Furthermore, because eggs are not renewed throughout a woman's lifetime, their numbers decline and they become increasingly genetically unstable with age.

Therefore, the authors of “The Fertility Diet” say that NAD+ may contribute to this age-related genetic instability in egg cells because it plays a role in repairing DNA damage, as do proteins like sirtuins and PARPs .

Research data on infertility and NMN

Professor David A. Sinclair of Harvard wrote a case report on an older woman who experienced energy and metabolic stimulation while taking NMN, and who resumed menstruation after taking NMN during menopause .

Furthermore, a recent study found that NMN significantly improved the fertility of older female rats. Mice administered NMN had healthier egg cells, increased ovulation rates, and increased offspring numbers compared to those administered before NMN administration.

These results suggest that NMN is gaining attention as an alternative to combating infertility in humans, beyond animals.
