Curcumin (Longvida)
Before we delve into the latest research on curcumin and cognitive function , let's briefly explain the source material .
Since curcumin is an extract of turmeric root , let's start with turmeric .
Turmeric is mentioned in Ayurvedic, an ancient Indian traditional medicine, and is a representative spice responsible for the health of Indians to this day, and the curry we are all familiar with is its representative food.
Curcumin is a polyphenol phytochemical extracted from the root of turmeric. It neutralizes free radicals in the body.
However, regular curcumin has low absorption and bioavailability, making it difficult to utilize effectively in the body .
Which curcumin should we take to have higher absorption and bioavailability ?
The way we can check this is by checking “ patented technology . ”
For example , there is the patented technology of longvida from Verdure Science, USA, called SLCPtm .
SLCPtm stands for Solid Lipid Curcumin Particle , which refers to the liposomal form in which curcumin is surrounded by a phospholipid protective layer .
Here, I would like to briefly touch on the unfamiliar terms phospholipid barrier and liposomal .
To put it simply ,
Phospholipid membrane refers to a type of membrane that surrounds nutrients, and refers to a double membrane composed of hydrophilic heads and hydrophobic tails .
Liposomal is a method of delivering nutrients that are difficult to absorb in the body by protecting them with a phospholipid protective film and increasing bioavailability .
In other words, when SLCPtm technology is added to curcumin , curcumin is protected by a double layer of phospholipids and surrounded by hydrophilic heads .
The reason why the absorption rate of general curcumin is low is because it has difficulty passing through the cell membrane in the body, so it is not absorbed and is excreted.
However, when liposomal technology is added to curcumin, it can easily pass through the body's cell membranes, thereby increasing the absorption rate and bioavailability of curcumin.

Curcumin and Cognitive Ability
I will inform you about curcumin's ability to improve cognitive ability based on a paper .
In the study, researchers at Swinburne University randomly assigned participants to either a placebo or Curcumin Longvida® to investigate whether taking Curcumin Longvida® improved cognitive performance . Eighty volunteers, aged between 50 and 80 years, were randomly assigned to take either a placebo (n=40) or 400mg of Curcumin Longvida® (n=40) for four and eight weeks .

The first thing the study will look at is memory enhancement .
Compared to the placebo group, those taking curcumin Longvida® experienced significant increases in working memory and concentration at both weeks 4 and 12 .
In particular , we can see that in the 12th week of spatial memory and learning domain, the placebo group was -3% , but the curcumin Longvida® group was 31% .
Next is the reduction of negative emotional indicators .

In particular , in the fatigue and weakness measurement indices, it can be confirmed that the placebo group was 19% at week 4 , but the curcumin Longvida® group was -19% .
Additionally, when comparing weeks 4 and 12 in terms of fatigue and weakness measures , a significant reduction in fatigue and weakness was observed in the curcumin Longvida® group compared to the placebo group .
In addition, in areas of negative emotions such as tension , anger , and anxiety, the curcumin Longvida® group showed a significant decrease, but not the placebo group .
Therefore, this paper suggests that regular intake of 400 mg of curcumin Longvida® is effective in improving cognitive ability and regulating negative emotions.
