When people think of eye supplements, lutein often comes to mind. However, many are unaware of why lutein is beneficial for eye health or who should take it. To address this, let’s delve into the history of the AREDS study, which established lutein as a key ingredient in "eye supplements."

AREDS stands for the Age-Related Eye Disease Study, a large-scale research initiative focusing on age-related eye conditions. ② For Retinal Diseases: Lutein + Pycnogenol

The eye is protected by a lipid barrier that safeguards the retina. As the most metabolically active tissue in the body, the retina is highly susceptible to oxidative stress. Furthermore, ocular tissues are exposed to strong ultraviolet light, which generates reactive oxygen species (ROS). When extreme oxidative stress occurs in the retina under various conditions, it can lead to retinal diseases.

In an experimental model using porcine retinal fluid, oxidative stress was induced by treating it with FeCl3, AAPH, and AMVN, simulating conditions associated with retinal diseases.
